Squarespace
I worked with the Squarespace Frontsite team to evolve the visual language and experience of Squarespace.com. The project focused on creating a new look and feel and a scalable design system that could be applied across marketing pages, editorial content, and campaign experiences.
My Role was;
I led visual and interaction design across key pages and components, and helped define the design system including typography, grid, color, and modular layout components. I worked closely with product, content, and engineering teams to ensure the system was flexible, scalable, and implementable across Squarespace.com.
Challenge
The main challenge was creating a system that balanced consistency and flexibility. Squarespace.com includes marketing pages, product education, customer stories, and campaigns, all with different content needs. We needed a design system that could unify the experience while still allowing teams to create expressive, story-driven pages without redesigning layouts from scratch each time.
Building a Visual System for Storytelling
I worked with the Squarespace Frontsite team to develop a flexible visual system for storytelling across Squarespace.com. We created layout principles, typography hierarchy, and modular components that allowed marketing, editorial, and product stories to feel consistent while still being expressive and adaptable across different types of content.
Designing for the Squarespace Ecosystem
We established a scalable design system used across the Squarespace digital ecosystem, including marketing pages, campaigns, and editorial experiences. The system unified grid, type, color, and components, enabling teams to build new pages efficiently while maintaining a consistent brand and user experience across Squarespace.com.
Homepage Update
We redesigned the hero and storytelling framework to better showcase customer stories, products, and use cases. The goal was to move from static marketing pages to more dynamic, modular storytelling that could support different types of content such as product launches, customer features, and campaigns.
Editorial / Interview Layout
For editorial pages like customer stories and interviews, we developed a flexible layout system combining typography, imagery, and pull quotes. The challenge was creating a system that felt editorial and expressive while still working within a scalable web framework.
Setting Tone for the Experience
For campaign and feature storytelling (like SQSP Feature posts), we explored more experimental layouts and motion-driven interactions to create engaging storytelling moments while still aligning with the broader Squarespace design system.
